Tutoring VS Brain Training

Which is better tutoring or brain training?

I get asked this question all the time.

Over the past 10 years, we have been part of a new wave in brain-based interventions. These have made it possible to resolve learning and reading issues at their source, once and for all using brain training.

So what are the differences:-

1. Brain Training is an Investment, Not An Ongoing Expense
Tutoring focuses on short-term goals — homework assignments, tests, etc.  The brain training is a one-time investment that deals with the underlying problem which can save you thousands of dollars in future tutoring costs. It is not something you have to keep going back to over and over. Once a brain has been rewired to read and learn, that’s it.

2. A Different Angle
Tutoring is more of the same. By continually throwing more and more information at a brain through teaching, extra work or computer programs, a child is not really doing anything different than what happens in the classroom. So, if this isn’t working in the classroom, why do we think it will work with tutoring.

3. Aiming For More Dramatic Gains
While tutoring targets a particular subject like reading, maths or science, Brain Plasticity targets specific weaknesses in the brain which can then help enhance learning across all subjects.

4. Engaging & Convenient
Most of what we do is online and convenient. You do not need to travel to a tutor nor do you have to organise your time to meet another person’s schedule. Another plus is that the software is like a computer game that most students like more than being tutored.

5. Judgement Free
If your child has struggled for a long time with a certain subject or concept like reading, then they may be feeling as though they are not as good as everyone else. This can lead to low self-esteem and a feeling of being judged. For a child who is not feeling great about themselves, a simple comment like, “Let’s read that again and see if we can go faster.”, can leave them feeling like they have failed, which ultimately confirms their negative mindset. By removing the parent or tutor, a child can then feel that perceived judgment has been removed.

6. Results
There are not many tutors who can boast a 2 year reading gain within a 4 to 5 month period. That is the average reading result achieved through the specific Brain Training we use. The training also helps to increase focus, memory, sequencing, behaviour, attitude and communication.

It just works!!!

I have been a teacher for 20 years and have seen and used many interventions during that time. None of them attempted to get to the core of reading and learning challenges like Brain Training does. That’s why I have been helping students reach their full potential for the past 10 years.
